Charles Khuzwayo wins best journalist print

ISOLEZWE journalist, Charles Khuzwayo, was honoured with the Best Journalist in the print category at the South African Traditional Music Awards (SATMAs) held at the East London International Convention Centre, on Saturday October 27, 2012.

Khuzwayo has been contributing to Isolezwe for many years and his passion for and knowledge of traditional music has earned him respect in the industry and a loyal following. His dedicated profiling of artists – mainly in the traditional genres – has been recognised.

Isolezwe readers are kept in tune with the ins and outs of traditional music, especially maskandi and isicathamiya because of his well-written, unbiased and well-researched articles.

“The award couldn’t have gone to a more deserving writer than Khuzwayo,” says Isolezwe editor, Sazi Hadebe. “Although employed to write for Isolezwe ngoMgqibelo, being the workaholic he is, Khuzwayo’s stories feature regularly in Isolezwe daily and Isolezwe ngeSonto,” comments the chuffed Hadebe.

Khuzwayo’s influence in the industry was demonstrated when, largely as result of his writing, two maskandi artists who had had bad blood, entered into reconciliation talks.

Accepting the award, Khuzwayo thanked Isolezwe management and staff for believing in his abilities and the support they gave him.
