Disney on Ice breaks sales records in Johannesburg

The world famous touring family production has taken South Africa by storm with its first visit to the country. Feld Entertainment’s Disney On Ice presents Worlds of Fantasy which brings to life four favorite Disney stories with skating, special effects and beloved characters, sold out the Coca-Cola Dome (Africa’s largest indoor arena) eight times in one weekend, an achievement never witnessed before.

 ”We knew the power of the Disney brand, and we knew the quality of this spectacular family show, but the response from South African audiences has been nothing short of breath-taking. This creates a wonderful foundation for the future”, says Sam Hendrikse, CEO of Hunta Live.

Disney On Ice has become a household name in more than 70 countries over the past 30 years, and Disney On Ice – Worlds of Fantasy offers from the contemporary feel of Cars and Toy Story 3 to the timeless quality of The Little Mermaid and Tinker Bell.

“The show is a great example of our commitment to bringing high quality entertainment to South Africa and we are thrilled that the show is proving to be such a big hit with families in Gauteng. ” says Christine Service, Country Manager Africa for Disney.

According to Coca-Cola Dome spokesperson Cynthia Penprase, they are equally delighted with the turn-out of the premier tour: “We have been looking forward to hosting this international event for months now and it has finally arrived. The Coca-Cola dome was literally transformed into a Disney fantasy world with some of the best loved Disney characters coming to life on the ice and thrilled the young audience… and adults. Feld Entertainment and Hunta Live have pulled out all the stops with this one and we are delighted to have hosted this spectacular event at the Coca-Cola dome.”

The production moves to Cape Town from the 6th of July until the 10th of July 2012 at the CTICC where coastal audiences will get a chance to see it.

Johannesburg audiences who didn’t make it to the Box Office for the 2012 Disney On Ice Tour need not be too disappointed, plans are already in play for bring the next Disney On Ice production to South Africa in 2013.
